Pennies for Robert provides travel funds for cancer patients coming to Pierre for treatment or leaving our community for treatment.

The fund was started in 2004 in memory of Robert Disburg , since then over ONE MILLION DOLLARS has been distributed for cancer travel.

Countryside does not reimburse for actual travel expenses but provides a stipend to assist with gas and lodging.

There are no income guidelines, no limit to the number of times you can request funds and the application process only requires a phone call 605-945-0827.

Pennies for Robert – 2025 Penny War

Pierre and Ft. Pierre businesses are invited to participate in the Pennies for Robert Penny War starting June 22nd and running thru July 17th.  Funds raise from this event will benefit the Pennies for Robert program at Countryside.  These funds support cancer patients traveling to Pierre for treatments at the Helmsley Center or patients in our area traveling out of town for cancer treatments.

If your business would like to participate, register here by June 1st and donation jars will be delivered June 21st.

How it Works:

• Each business will stage a collection bucket (provided) with penny war info/rules from June 22nd – July 17th.
• Customers will deposit pennies into buckets.
• Each penny is worth it’s face value; penny = 1
• The jar with the most pennies wins.
• BUT WAIT!
• What about silver coins and bills?
• Businesses can ADD to the FUN of this campaign by sabotaging other businesses thru social media by calling all troops to add silver coins or bills to another business bucket to subtract from their penny total.
• Each silver coin/bill is worth it’s face value; nickel=5, dime=10, quarter=25, dollar=$1, etc
• Again, the bucket with the most pennies, will be the winner.
• Buckets will be collected on July 17th between 8am and noon.
• Winner will be announced at the Countryside Zap Game Night on July 18th.
