DESCRIPTION:OMA – Opening Minds Through Art\n\nWhat is OMA:\nAn evidence-based program based on an understanding of dementia & the needs of persons living with dementia.\n– Freely express themselves/positive emotions\n– Social interaction with trained volunteers\n– “Failure free” creation of complex abstract art\n– An informal coffee group will be available for caregivers.\nWho should attend OMA?\n– Persons with moderate to severe memory loss\nWho should volunteer?\n– Someone who is positive, flexible, patient, respectful, responsible, sociable and able to listen.\n– Volunteers do not need to have an art background.\n– Volunteers who receive specialized training work 1:1 with the “artists” – the free class meets for one hour once a week for 6 weeks.\nFor more information call: 605-945-0827\nLocation: Countryside Community Room • 415 S.
